North Korea launched a new model of a long-range ballistic missile, causing alarm in northern Japan as residents were advised to take cover. However, there was no actual danger.

According to a South Korean military official, the missile appeared to be a new weapon displayed during recent North Korean military parades, and it may have used solid fuel. The missile traveled approximately 1,000 km (620 miles), which was deemed a "grave provocation" by South Korea's military. The missile's maximum altitude was lower than last year's record-breaking tests, which reached an apogee of 6,000km.

The official stated that the missile was likely an intermediate or intercontinental-range ballistic missile and that they are still analyzing details such as the trajectory, altitude, and range. There is also a possibility that the missile carried a solid-fuel propellant.

"The missile was fired at 7:23 a.m. (2223 GMT on Wednesday) from near Pyongyang, the South's military said. Japan's coast guard said it had landed by 8:19 a.m."

The South Korean military is on high alert and is coordinating with the United States, their main ally, who strongly condemned the missile test in a statement. This latest development raises concerns about North Korea's military capabilities and potential threats to regional security.
